Hi there....this is long>>but informative

Recommended Posts

Well, only 1 days left :) Saturday i went to a family gathering and a friend of the family was there. She'd had the lap band back in May 2003. She almost died. She was following the post-op directions to the 'T' and lost 60lbs. Then all of a sudden she couldn't keep anything down. She got so ill~~~so many hospitals~~~ just awful. Fortunatly, God wasn't ready for her to come home yet. After removing the band and much rehab ~ she is alright now. I completly believe that the lapband is not for everyone. Don't quite know how to "know" who it is right for~~guess i'll find out. I belive in my heart that this is Gods will for me.

Jessica and Stephanie,

You will both do well with your banding. I have been banced for 3 years and my weight loss could be better, however, I have a hiatal hernia that gives me fits so I am not getting a fill till I can get it fixed. I have heard many, many lapband stories and it is rare to hear of peole nearly dieing , etc. It does happen, but the band it sooooooooo awesome I cannot imagine my life it I had not done this. My daughter was 19 when she had it done, (same day as me) and she needs a fill also, but she has done very well. I pray both of you the best of luck and a speedy recovery with much weight lost.

Terry Evans

I hope people do not freak out because of your story... There really isn't much info there. Why did she almost die? Was it because she waited too long to get to a Dr.? Or because she couldn't eat/drink for too long?

I hope that her journey has been better, but hopefully you could tell us more.

I would love more info too! Did they find out why she couldn't eat or drink? Did the band slip? Please explain.

I would also like to know what the problem was with her band. Could you please elaborate a little. Thanks

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
