I am 12 days pre-op and on day 2 of my 2 shakes & 1 lean, green meal pre-op diet. I've been having the shakes for Breakfast for about 4 weeks. I've been on my feet a lot and working outside in the yard this weekend (I live in Nevada) and have been trying to drink plenty of Water, but this afternoon I started having unexplained pain on the top of my foot in the ankle area. It feels like I dropped something on my foot & it's badly bruised. It occurred to me that this may be gout - which I've never had before, but my husband and brother in law have had. There is no redness or apparent swelling. I plan to drink 16 to 24 oz before heading to bed tonight, but am wondering if the increase in Protein from the shakes could be a factor. Any insight is appreciated!

I've been having some similar pain in the top of my right foot today. It feels like I broke a bone in my foot. It was worse when I first got up and walked on it. My hubby thinks it might be gout and offered me some of his gout meds, but I declined. I hope it's just pain from the heels that I was wearing yesterday and that it feels better tomorrow.

Its weird I actually suffer from gout and I hardly hurt it in my feet or ankles the pain is always in my back, wrists, or arms. It feels like a sort of achey feeling and it is like posion cursing through your veins when you have an attack. The atttack only occurs when I eat read meat or steak. I hope you girls don't have gout and it was because you were working in your yard and from wearing heels. A lot of times people will have a gout attack in their big toe that is the most common area to have one. I don't know if this helps, but I am always here if you need to talk about gout :)

This is a pretty good summary of Gout.

http://www.umm.edu/p...ut_000093_2.htm

I have flare ups from time to time but its mostly controlled with a daily dose of Allopurinal. For me, it hits my toes, ankles, and heels most often, usually only presenting in one joint at a time (thank goodness). If you suspect gout, GO TO A DOCTOR! My first time I didn't know what was happening and my ankle was swollen to the size of a cantalope between the time I realized it wasn't a sprain and the time I made it to the Doctor's office (just one day). It is very painful, I don't get bruising but I do get swelling and redness. As the article points out, a bedsheet is too much pressure to bear on a full on attack. I hope for your sake (and I'm sure your husband will bear this out) that it isn't gout but something more immediate. The bruising is, I think, unusual.

It appears that I am gout free. No foot pain today. I'm so relieved!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
