Don't know where to post :/

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I know this is the sleeve board but I don't really know where to post, there are no boards for the surgery I'm having. SO, if there are any POSE procedure people hanging out here, I'd love to talk with you! Or if anyone knows where there is a forum for U.S. POSE patients, I'd love the link!

I'm scheduled for the 21st of this month along with a friend of mine. I'm excited but a little nervous since I can't seem to find anywhere to talk to anyone who has had it in the US so far. Dr. Lavin of Surgical Specialists of Louisiana is doing it and is a pioneer with this surgery. I do have a question for all of you here, were you intubated with your surgery? Is that something that happens no matter what surgery is being done? And also, when were you told you could quit worrying about blood clots after surgery? I'm only going to be out for an hour and up and walking within 2 so not alot of down time. Hoping that helps alleviate the blood clot risk??? But, I'm a smoker so that's something I am concerned with.

Thanks in advance everyone!!!

Krystal

Good Morning,

Yes everyone is intubated when they are having this surgery because they want to make sure your always able to breathe.Second Im not sure who told you blood clots are something you shouldnt worry about but you definetely should. I work in the vascular lab and know this too well. Unfortunately if you are smoking you are at risk now for blood clots and with surgery it will double. They do put compressions on us during surgery to keep the blood circulating and thats why they make us walk immedietely and especially the days proceded. But when you smoke you are robbing your arteries of oxygen and also causes them to scar which can pool blot and there is where the blood clots can form. Most surgeons wont operate on patients unless they have quit smoking so not sure why they havent made you quit unless they just want the money and arent concerned for patients health....Dont mean to scare you just think you should know the truth....Good luck on your journey.

Since it's similar to the ROSE procedure for failed RNY patients, you might want to post on the obesityhelp.com Revision forum.

Hi exoticheart. Thanks for your reply. I haven't been told by anyone NOT to worry about blood clots, lol. That's why I asked how long after a surgery can one take that off their list of things to worry about. I'm glad you posted the info. I'm sure that it's not going to help much since surgery is in a week and 3 days, but after what you said, tomorrow I will not be smoking any more. I have a 7 year old that will be waiting for me to come home to him and take care of him so I'll do whatever I can to cut my risks down.

Tiffykins, thanks for the info. I forgot about the ROSE procedure for RNY patients, great idea to post there!!

Hope to hear from some more of you all!! God Bless!

Krystal

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
