I HAD LAP BAND ON 04-28-04. THE FIRST NIGHT WAS ROUGH. THREW UP OLD BLOOD IN MY sleep. WAS DISCHARGED ON 04-30-04. FEELING A LITTLE BETTER. WENT TO BED ON SAT. 05-01-04 FELL ASLEEP ON RIGHT SIDE. HEARD AN AWFUL RACKET COMING FROM STOMACH WHEN I TURNED ON MY BACK. A FEW MIN. LATER GOT UP AND DRANK A SIP OF Water 10 MIN. LATER IN BATHROOM TROWING WHAT LOOKS TO BE OLD BLOOD. HUSBAND STATED IT COULD BE ACID FROM THE STOMACH. BEEN DOING BETTER TODAY. WAS ABLE TO HOLD DOWN 4OZ. OF Protein Drink WITHNO PROBLEM. OPEN TO ALL SUGESTIONS.

THANKS:(

I would call your doctor and let him know that you have been throwing up. I was not able to have Protein drinks until my 10 th day post op. I was strictly on Clear liquids for a good 14 days post op.

My doctor would not release me if Iwas even feeling like I was going to throw up. Every doctor is different but to ease your mind I would call the doctor. To me this does not seem normal.

Hi Sarah,

Congratulations on getting banded! I hope you're feeling better by now. Your nausea could have been a response to anaesthesia; everyone reacts differently and it can take many days for the effects to fully resolve themselves.

If you're still throwing up, as in really feeling stomach spasms, you definitely should keep your doctor apprised. This is a stage for healing and the reason we are only permitted liquids is to keep the stomach from moving around. Vomiting, obviously, should be avoided now more than ever.

Healing is a process and you should be feeling better each day. Please let us know how you're doing, and do call the doctor tomorrow if you're not getting better.

Welcome to the site!

Hi Sarah -

Definitely contact your doctor - you shouldn't be throwing up BLOOD - the stomach should not have been compromised in any way - everything done to it is on the OUTSIDE, and there should be no BLOOD inside your stomach from your surgery TO throw up.

I am concerned.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
