I was sleeved yesterday by Dr. Zeni in Livonia. I'm still here in the hospital but wanted to share my excitement of being on the other side. I have to say I felt like I was hit by a truck after my surgery yesterday but today I feel much better. They did the last leak test a couple hours ago and no leak so I'm eating some liquid foods now. I know this is only the beginning but I'm happy to be past that first big step. Thanks for all the great info you guys bring to this site. It's very enlightening!

Thanks Kelly, yeah ice chips only don't quite make it when your throat is so dry you can hardly talk. Just happy to be on liquids! lol

Exciting! I was so happy once it was over! Now the fun begins....congratulations!:D See if they can give you some crushed ice, for some reason that tasted so much better to me than ice chips.< /p>

Congratulations on getting it done! Its funny that you said you felt like you got hit by a truck when you woke up... When I woke up after the surgery the surgeon, the P.A and all the nurses were there, they asked how I was feeling, I didn't answer them for a few seconds I just kept looking around, the P.A finally said "what are you looking for?:

Me " the truck"

P.A, " what truck?"

Me " the one that ran me over while I was asleep!" They all got a little chuckle out of it.

Just know that each day you will feel better, and stronger! Best of luck!

Congrats Greg, I am a Michigander too!!! I am 5 months out and each day is just incredible! About the 3rd month you are on cloud 9! Your healed, your energy is back, you've went down a size or two in clothes! It's just wild! I love it!

Good luck to you!!

Congrats from another Michigander! I am eight weeks out this week and have lost 28 pounds since surgery, 44 since my first WLS appointment last January. The first week after surgery was rough, I won't lie. Walk as much as you possibly can. I went to costco the day after I was released from surgery just to hang on to a cart and walk around. (Weather was cold and rainy in mid-April). I must have looked like death warmed over but I didn't care. The first week I went back to work was also hard. I had low energy and was very tired. Don't be surprised if a stall starts about week 2 or 3. About at week 4 things really started improving! Wishing you all the best.

Marie

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
