I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism a few years ago and take Synthroid every day. My levels are stable, but because I have had trouble losing weight in the past, I was wondering if any of you have the same health problem. If so, were you able to lose much weight quickly after surgery? Or does this ailment prevent quick weight loss after surgery, as it can without surgery?

I just wanna know what to expect. Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

It is a little soon to tell (yep we are now two meggies with (soon) sleeves, husbands named Michael, AND hypothyroidism!) but I lost 18 pounds on my two week liquid diet, and have lost 16 in the four weeks since surgery. I am thrilled with it as I too have always lost weight very slowly in the past- but I think I never really got how important the carb factor was and have stuck to that firmly since day one of my pre-op. I think that as long as we keep our levels good we will be ok- jmo.

(ps you aren't by any chance left handed? now that might almost be eerie...)

I have hypo-thyroidism, too, and have lost about 26 lbs since surgery 8 weeks go. I can't complain a bit. I haven't started truly working out yet either, so I don't even think about my thyroid slowing things down at all. My surgery group explained that this surgery would help rev everything up!

i just came back from my pcp and she had me take another blood test for my thyroid. She said my thyroid meds may need to be upped since the surgery............if I recall correctly it was because we don't have enough acid to totally disolve the meds and therefore we're not getting enough..............darn, that's why my hubby tends to go with me each time I go to Dr. I can't remember what all she tells me!!

That is really good to know. I will ask my GP about that and get checked again. I certainly don't want that interfering with my weight loss!

i have it as well and I guess it is still too soon for me to tell. I have lost 26 lbs since surgery 4 weeks ago but long term I don't know if it ends up getting really slow for us or not.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
