4 Weeks Out just arrived in ONEderland!

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

Just got back from my official 4 week weigh-in at the surgeon's office. I was so thrilled when the scale said 199.5!!!

Today is my first day of "mushies" and I just had 1/3 cup of chicken salad. Went down well, but now is sitting in my new little tummy like a rock. I'm actually pretty happy that I feel so full. All those liquids had me wondering how tight I was going to be! Guess that Chicken Salad answered that question! lol

Any "mushy" ideas will be greatly appreciated!:D

Happy Tuesday!

Barb

Happy Tuesday to you Miss Barb! Welcome to ONEderland!

Its funny how all of our post-op diets are different. When I have my surgery, I will be on Clear Liquids for 3 days, full liquids for 4 days and mushies from the 2nd week to the 4th week.

I am planning on eating:

meatloaf w/ff gravy & veggies

meatballs with sauce (ground chicken and turkey work well for meatballs and meat loaf)

cottage cheese

tuna/chicken salad

crustless quiche

scrambled eggs

omelets

among other things. Eggface has so many great recipes that are good for pureeing that I will also be trying.

Good for you! That is awesome. I likely will have bits of:

mashed avocado

homemade hummus (I'll try mixing Protein powder into it to try to boost the Protein content).

Greek nonfat yogurt

scrambled eggs

blended Soups such as split pea with ham and lentil Soup (also with attempt to add protein powder)

Protein Powder ice cream

juicy roasted chicken blended with gravy to a soft consistency (or beef or any other meat my family is eating, my portion doctored so I can eat with them)

Campbell's Soup At Hand,

tuna salad

butter chicken, pureed to baby food consistency

mashed banana blended with Peanut Butter

Roasted garlic polenta

grits with a bit of butter or reduced fat cream cheese mixed in with pepper

pumpkin pie innards

Mashed sweet potato

Low fat cottage cheese

Baked pureed skinless apple with cinnamon

Baked potato soup, blended (homemade of course)

Cream of mushroom soup, blended (also homemade)

Chilled cucumber soup with garlic and mint

Mushroom risotto with parmesan

Fresh fruit sorbet, homemade with whatever is in season (peaches, strawberry, etc)

And probably tons of more stuff.

Let me know if you want recipes :)

First off - Congrats!!! :) I can't wait to be in onederland. I never got there with the band, but hoping to with the sleeve. I like that you said you were wondering about the size of your sleeve with all the liquids - I've been wondering that, too! Guess I'll find out next week.

One recipe that I'm dying to try is one that was in my doc's packet:

1 egg

1 teaspoon of chopped black olives

1 teaspoon of feta cheese

pinch of garlic & salt,

scramble all together. I love all of those things, so to me that sounds yummy.

:)

I found that my stomach didn't like a lot of variation in mushies so I ended up sticking to a few core staples:

bits of rotisserie chicken (thigh) mixed with riccotta cheese, salt and then heated (I ate this 2x a day)

deli turkey with cream cheese, rolled up

cottage cheese

mashed yams with salt

thin oatmeal (helps with Fiber - I never had to take a supplement)

Buy tupperware containers that are 1/2 cup in size and then you can fill them halfway and put them in the fridge. Helps with portions and easy to serve.

It was boring, but it got me through. I couldn't eat a scrambled egg for several weeks - even then, I would scrmble it over low heat with a good amount of butter so it was really tender. Beef was not a good option for me which was weird because beef was the only meat I could eat when I had a lap band. Ham slices made me nauseous. I once made an egg-face pizza with alfredo sauce on it and it was good. I only ate 1/4 of it :-)

Experiment!! What doesn't feel good one day may feel good a week later. Also, your taste buds change and what you think will taste really good may be completely awful now. That was a surprise to me - I had a long lis to f thing I "thought" I would eat and I ended up eating completely different stuff.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
