Aaaggghhh!!! My Port!!!

Recommended Posts

Where is your port located? Mine is so far up on my left side, just under my ribs and very close to the surface. It sticks out so far it is visible thru my shirt and bothers my very badly. Every day by early evening I am in pain all around and under my port area. I am only 9 days out, so is this normal? I am really worried about its placement!

Mine is placed in about the same spot, but it wasn't near the surface and it wasn't sticking out. Have you asked your doctor? If your in a lot of pain you should go see him, and see whats going on. I was still in quiet a bit of port pain 9 days out though as well. I think it was at least a week before I could even sleep flat on my bed, the rest of the nights were spent on the recliner. I would be more concerned about it sticking out.

You could still be swollen following the surgery, my port area took the longest to feel good. If it continues I would call the doctor.

My port area still hurts. I think it is normal. From what I have read that is the area that takes the longest to heal. If it is sticking out I would ask the doctor. It may just be swelling, but it does not hurt to ask.

Hope your pain meds/ Tylenol help.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
