Why do Fills seem so difficult?

Recommended Posts

Why do some have so much trouble getting the fill right?

It would seem to me that if you use the fluoroscopy (sp?) then it should be a very simple process to get at least very close.

Are most of the bandsters that are having such a hard time getting the fill right using doctors that don't use the scope?

Insight welcome.

You spelled it right.

Fills are just weird for most people, some people swell after a fill, other people like me get nervous and spasm making it hard to even take a fill.

So by looking at the fluoroscopy you can find the right neighborhood, but as soon as you walk out of the office, that could all change.

If you are a sweller, you may not be able to take in liquids. The swelling would go down, but you would be dangerously dehydrated by then.

If you are a nervous Nellie, your perfect restriction fades on the walk to the car. Talk about an expensive fill. ...bblluuup.. all gone

Still others feel no restriction for two weeks! What?

I suppose it is just easiest to say that messing with ones innards is a lesson in weirdness. That is why we try to sneak up on restriction since large fills tend to intensify our quirks.

Fluoroscope/xray isnt routinely used in Australia anyway - and we dont have fill centres, they're generally done by the surgeon or an associated doctor. So you just have to inch your way slowly towards perfect restriction, it takes a fair while. Six months on I'm perhaps just getting there.

yeah, i've never had flouro. i think it's usually overkill. you just sneak up on the right restriction. worst case scenario, you have a bad night and get an unfill the next day. i guess the only case i'd really believe in flouro for every fill is someone who has their fill doc hours away.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
