Ok, so I had Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy last June and I've lost 70 lbs. I'm only 30 pounds away from goal. Here's my concern. I'm stuggling SO much to eat right & I've been at a stall for months now (since around October to be exact) Having surgery is just providing you with a tool to help you get where you want to be. But it is not magic and it does not fix your eating mentality. I am a food addict. With surgery or without. I find myself eating snack foods all day. I am not gaining weight, but this habit is preventing me from getting to goal. I feel like complete crap after eating junk food. I'm afraid I might stretch my tummy out again too.

Is anyone else dealing with this?:(

Im not sure if you relize this but you posted under the pregnancy tab. You might have better luck posting a different area.

Find yourself a good support group locally, it doesn't have to be a surgical group a group like Weight Watchers or something will do. And get an accountability partner you can trust and confide in. And lastly, force yourself to record EVERY morsel that goes into your mouth. You can use a written journal using a calorie counter book or an online one. I use http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ , it's easy to keep up and I can do it from any computer.

If you still cannot control your appetite then see if a mental health professional will help. It may be expensive but it may be worth it if you genuinely have food issues.

Good luck and God bless.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
