Well I am 2 weeks and 1 day past surgery. I knew with the RNY they often get to throw their insulin away right away....didn't know for sure what the sleeve would do for my insulin needs. Pre--surgery I was on 90 units of long-acting and 1 unit fast-acting insulin for every 10 grams of carbs at mealtime.

Well I am happy to report that I am taking less than 10 units of the fast-acting insulin a day....that's all. I was also on glucophage....like 2000 mg. a day. I am not taking any now.

Now for my worries. I didn't put it all together when I scheduled my surgery, but May may be a tough month for me. On May 15 my daughter graduates from college, so were are going to Chicago for the weekend. I don't see too many temptations or problems with that.

The next weekend they are having a memorial service and spreading of my wife's brother's ashes. Well I married a woman who likes to eat, as does her whole family, so they are planning a big meal. I am planning on taking a good book and try to be sociable, but her family....well let's say 2 very dysfunctional people found each other and her family is a prime example.

The next weekend a friend is getting married.....a senior citizen thing....they dated in college, married other people, divorced their spouses and have been pretty much a thing since the late 1980's. Out of the blue they decided to get hitched. Now there are no worries there. I know at this point I couldn't even do a sliver of a piece of cake.

Well I am lower in weight than since my mid to late 20s.

congrats on being on such a reduced insulin dose!

You know, in May people will probably have things like cottage cheese, fruit salad, lunch meat and veggies. I am pre-sleeve so don't know what all you can have at that point but maybe some cottage cheese? If you have to take a dish you could always find a recipe that you can eat and take that. I would take plenty of fluids just in case all they have is soda.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
