Dumping Syndrome with the Sleeve

Recommended Posts

I notice several of you saying you have dumping symptoms and you haven't been sleeved yet. I know my date is very close and all the sudden I am having dumping symptoms' date=' nausea, diarreha, cramping, weakness, I have to lay down. I really believe I am already have the dumping symptoms. Weird. I feel like I am being prepared so I don't eat certain things like sweets, fats, carbohydrates, Pasta, etc.[/quote']

What are you eating now? Are you on a strict pre-surgery diet? Are you eating foods w sugar alcohols?

I am 1 month post op today and I definitely get dumping syndrome! My surgeon says that sleeves do get it but not as much as bypassers. If I eat something too fatty or even too greasy I spend the next 30-45 minutes so sick to my stomach that I wish I could throw up the food, accompanied with feeling like my body is in a sauna.. Hot and sweaty and over all it just sucks.

Most of the time if something is too sugary it just goes thru me w the cramps and diarrhea.

I've also experienced this about 4 or 5 times total since surgery.

Today I tried a new Protein drink in the morning (Boost Plus) and after only 1/4 of it I was already nauseous, shakey, hot, and sweaty. Not sure if it was the sugar content or the added calories from the "plus" part.

It is a horrible feeling and I hope the symptoms lessen a bit as time passes, but I have already learned a few foods that I will never try again.. And am probably better off without them!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
