eating too much?`

Recommended Posts

I am over 3 months out and VERY happy with my weight loss success. The only thing is, I notice my eating ability changes day to day. At the weekend I went out to a greek restaurant and could barely touch more than a bit of lamb. The next day I had just less than half a slice of toast and I was STUFFED.

But then on other days, like today I can eat more. I have been feeling so ill and made myself a piece of toast and managed a whole slice of it. Later on in the day I had a small low fat side dish indian potato and vegetable curry for 180 calories and could eat it in just around 30 minutes with a few breaks.

Other days, I feel like I can't eat much at all and I'm worried I'm suddenly going to be able to eat larger portions of food.< /p>

I don't touch Cookies, candies, chips, cakes, ice cream and decided not to as I was addicted to these foods and find if I don't touch them, I won't get the urge to binge. I never eat in a way that is unhealthy now so I'm confident that I won't cheat the sleeve in terms of drinking high calorie drinks or lots of ice cream BUT am worried I can eat too much food such as bread. But it is amazing how it can change from day to day...what I can manage one day and think is a slider, the next I can't even touch.

My family are happy when I can eat a bit more because I do hardly touch my food when I am out with them, so it's a victory for them when they see me eat a piece of toast and they say, "well done, you managed it!" Which is quite sweet actually...am I worrying for nothing?

You are at that point where things are healing - nerves are repairing, stomach swelling is gone/reduced ... so, it's normal that some days you can eat more than normal. Pre-surgery, I bet you had days like that too - just the amounts were larger so you didn't notice as much.

At 14 months out, I can definitely eat more than I could at 3 months, but it's still about 1/4 (or often less) of what I ate in one sitting before. I just have to laugh when "regular" portions are set out in front of me. I'm like "As if ...". But, it makes me a cheap date. If we don't share a meal, I have leftovers for 3 additional meals.

I'd say don't worry too much about it. At 3 months, you still need to focus on Protein first (try that instead of the toast), non-calorie liquids second, and then veggies/fruits. If you do that and stay within your nutrition guidelines, you will be fine.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
