What Size Bougie Are You?

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I am 2 weeks out from my surgery date and would like to know what the average size french bougie is used for men with the gastric sleeve. My doctor recommends a 40 for men given the extra calories and Protein men require over women. Wondering is this the average size, to big, to small? Not sure. Need some information from the guys please.

I have never heard of a difference between bougies sized for men or woman.... My doc said that the range is 32-60 so a 40 would still be on the small size. How it is stitched or stapled has something to do with the size too...and if it is cut loose or tight.....

Im a woman, 36 cut loose, then overstitched is what I was told I was getting...He also cuts loose at the pylorus end, saying it avoids problems...(?)

There is a lot of debate about boughie size and stitching technique. Everyone seems to lose equally well with 32-40, but regain seems to be a potential issue for larger sizes.

I don't think it really matteres male or female ... What's important is that the larger the boughie or loose stitching can leave more stomach that is stretchy. Overtime, this can (theoretically) cause more stomach capacity.

On the other hand - too small of a stomach can cause a stricture (or bend) in the stomach that requires another procedure to correct.

I was a "tight" 36. I've done great at the weightloss and seem to be doing ok with maintenance. Can definitely eat more than I could the first few months, but still can't eat a whole hamburger (even the kids fast food ones).

I say talk to your doctor and listen to his reasons/experience. Together, make a decision on what size you feel comfortable with getting.

My husband was told he would be getting a 32.. and He's 6'4, 375 lbs.. He's pretty muscular as it is... We also discussed the caloric intake for him and if it was feasible to get in enough Protein to actually add muscle mass... The surgeon assured us that even with a 32, he would be able to get adequate amounts of protein to increase muscle mass but it's going to be a little difficult.. Surgeon said he had one short guy that "looks like a tornado now from the shoulders down" but takes in about 100g of protein per day... So it's possible with a smaller sleeve, but I guess a little bit more difficult and takes a lil bit more focus?

40 here and oversewn. Doing good with it. I was told that there is mearly mm in difference with the sizes. I questioned why a 40 and that is where he explained that there isn't much difference in sizes. My capacity now is 2-4 ounces and max will be 6 ounces. I can barely eat 2 1/2 ounces now.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
