I'm sorry - I didn't realize you had a heart attack? who is your cardiologist? My husband has a fabulous cardiologist in Westchester Hospital - Dr. Richard Kaye. I also am sorry about your spleen ... did your sister have complications after her surgery? Let me know if you plan on going to a support group in NW ... I've been going every month when they have them (usually first Thursday of each month). I really do hope you feel better soon .. hang in there ... I have no doubt you will start to feel better!!!! I was like you, though, the first 3 weeks I felt so miserable I kept telling myself I made the biggest mistake in my life. Now, though, I am feeling so much better and realize it was the best decision in my life in that it will help me live a longer & healthier life in the long run .. I feel confident the same will be true for you ..hang in there ... I'm sure it will get better! Keep me posted.

Hey Rosiegirl, I found this cardiologist named Andrew Kupersmith is at 19 bradhurst with Columbia Cardiology I don't see him until Dec 1. I don't have the best insurance. OMG to find a hematologist in Westchester that took my insurance was disastrous. I would love to go to the support groups. I have a feeling the next one is on Dec. 1. Which I have 2 Drs. Appt that day. But if you know when it is lete know the date and time. Thanks, Carole

well, if you want to see a different cardiologist & maybe sooner, give Dr Richard Kaye a call .. again, at Westchester Medical Ctr (or affiliated with) ... what insurance do you have? Not sure about hematologists, but maybe Roslin's office can help you find one .. ??? So, did you have a heart attack recently? Is that why you have to see a cardiologist? Didn't you have to see one prior to the surgery for a stress test? I thoughtI had to have a stress test prior to surgery ... but in any event, I had one 6 months prior to surgery anyway .... I used a good thoracic surgeon recently, Dr. Cathcart, and I have a good lung doctor, Dr. Molinari .. both were located in Mt. Kisco area. I really hope you continue to improve every day ... and yes, I think the next support group is Dec.1st, but will let you know if I hear otherwise ... keep up the good work and keep the faith! Let me know how things go ...

Hey Rosiegirl,

Yes I ended up having a heart attack the day aftr my surgery. They tried to get me up for the swallow or upper gi and they said I just crashed. I remember they were trying to get me up and I was going the other way, then I just fainted. I don't remember having any pain or anything. The whole situation is weird I am not sure of anything. But I am going to these Dr.'s because I want to be okay. Yes please let me know when the next support group is. Thank for the info on the Doctors I will see if any take my insurance. Take care, Carole

omg - i am so sorry you've been through such a rough time ... honest, I thought I had it rough in the hospital (the other people who had surgery the same day as me seemed to have had an easier time recovering than me) but it sounds like you really had a rough time .. I'm so sorry! Did your sister have any complications after her surgery? I really am hoping you are feeling better every day ... I will say a prayer for you & keep you in my thoughts. keep me posted.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
