Sick / Cold 4 Days Before Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

As my luck would have it I got sick and I have been taking tons of Vitamins

and Code ease trying to get better but I can't lose my cough and runny nose...

What's going to happen Monday will they cancel?

Dude, sorry about the cold. At one point I thought my surgeon would not cancel surgery unless you had a fever, but a friend who was scheduled with same surgeon as I had. Had her surgery canceled becuz of the congestion of the cold. So only your surgeon knows for sure.

I think the best thing to do would be to call your surgeon's office and tell them what's going on. Maybe they can give you some advice or maybe even a scrip.

Good luck, I am rooting for you. Keep us posted.

4 days is a long time in the life of a cold and assuming that you have already had it for a day or two...you may be fine by Monday. Your doctor may or may not go ahead anyway...totally depends on the doc. I had major abdominal surgery with a fresh cold and my surgeon said, "he wasn't worried about it". It hurt like heck when I coughed a lot after the surgery but I didn't split a stitch! :P Honestly, if it was ME, I wouldn't call the doc this early because this might be a mild cold and you might be feeling fine the day of the surgery and I would HATE to have them cancel my surgery needlessly. I'd wait until the day of surgery and show up and let them assess you then. Rest and take care of yourself in the meantime.

You're gonna be fine by Monday! I had a bit of a cold going in (no fever) and my Dr. still went ahead. I didn't have any issues post-op.

I talked to the Dr and everything is fine I am really at the end of it but still a little cough it was scarying me.

I have come this far and trying to prep mentally that would have thrown me for a loop!

Thanks!

I have a cold and my surgery is 10 days away!! I am freaking out! I am glad that you were still able to have your surgery, I really hope I will have mine on schedule. Trying to do research online, but this was all I've found on the subject. I am blasting myself with Vitamin C and Zycam tablets to hopefully push it thru.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
