Possible Gallbladder issues!

Recommended Posts

Today I went to my PCP and discussed a pain that I have been having in my right side. At first, when it started, I figured that I had pulled a muscle or something because it wasn't too bad. Although, it has gotten worse each day over the past week. So, now, he is worried that I am having gallbladder problems! Just what I need 4 weeks post-op!

Had blood tests today and have an ultrasound tomorrow. I am so upset, but maybe this is part of my weight-loss stall?? I really don't want to have another surgery! However, everyone tells me it is pretty minor and you bounce back quick.

Has anyone else had gallbladder issues?

I'm in the same boat right along with you! Already had my ultrasound, they didn't see any stones, but tell me they see "sludge" instead. My surgeon said this is what's causing my nausea, so due to have an endoscopy soon, and depending on the condition of the gallbladder when the endoscopy is done will determine when the gallbladder comes out.

does everyone have to have gallbladder removed after surgery? or did it bother you before and now you have to have it taken out?

i do not have complications with mine now and was just wondering if it will bother me later?

thanks,

kelly

Not everybody has gallbladder problems after surgery. I had no problems at all with my gallbladder before surgery, but was put on a medication called "Ursodiol" right after surgery to prevent formation of gallstones. My surgeon said those people who lose weight rapidly are more prone to formation of gallstones. I only have occasional pain, but the nausea is HORRIBLE!!!

My ultrasound today showed gallstones! I see my PCP on Monday to see what the plan is! I never had problems before surgery from my gallbladder. I guess it is a 20-30% chance that after WLS, the gallbladder will act up.

Ugh! 5 months out and and sever pain , goin to my surgeon today. We both are thinking its my gallbladder. Geez! It's hurts!!!! But my pain is more centred. And I am hoping this is why I have stalled in my weight loss for the past month. Anyone else stall because of gb issues?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
