Post-Surgery Swelling

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on March 16th and have not had many problems at all since I came home. I can drink the Protein shakes just fine and am getting all my liquids in (with Water or crystal light). Mornings seem to be the hardest for me...just trying to get out of bed, but once I move around I feel pretty good.

I do however still feel terribly bloated and am 2.5 lbs over my surgery weight.

I was wondering when everyone else's bloating and swelling from surgery went away?

I was sleeved on March 10 and just noticed the swelling going down this weekend, March 19 or so. I'm still kind of swollen but it has diminished a lot.

I gained 6 pounds in the hospital! My stomach was so huge for the first week post op, I couldn't get my pants on.

I vowed to not step on a scale until doctor's visits, at least for a while. I refuse to measure my sucess by my weight. I was sleeved 3/3/11, a month has gone by and I am still a little bloated. However, my clothes are fitting - and even a little loose now.

Hang in there! Time and good nutrition will heal our bodies.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
