Over 80# pounds gone forever

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved November 11, 2010. I have now lost 81 pounds and no end in sight. Started this journey at 334 the day of surgery. I actually went to a conference last week, flew for the first time comfortably, no belt extender, could use the tray table, actually enjoyed the flight! As others have said, enjoying life so much more, no pain in the legs, knees, feet. Walked miles a day at the conference and was in great spirits all day. Enjoying so much that I have missed the last years, bowling, golfing, walks, swimming. It truly is amazing.

I have so much more self confidence now than I have had in 30 years. I do workshops and retreats and was always lacked confidence due to my weight and look. NOW, nothing holding me back. I enjoy being in front of a group and presenting.

It took me five years to work up the courage to have the surgery, to admit that I had food issues and needed help. Dieted for years, but yo-yo weight loss. I have been insulin diabetic for 10 years and was taking over 200units of insulin a day. Now I only take to meds and insulin as a correction. Most days I don't even take insulin! What a relief. Starting to eat different foods. Can't wait to be able to enjoy a salad and fresh vegetables. Have learned to cook better foods for the entire family.

Totally appreciate this forum and everyones comments, thoughts, encouragement to each other. This has been the one place I continue to come back to for support!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
