I will try to make this brief and to the point.

My name is Randy

I’m 45 years old. 6’4” and 401lbs.

There’s an athlete in here somewhere. Former college football player, backpacker and rock climber. I guess I exchanged exercise for will power. As long as I was running 3 miles a day and working out I could eat anything I wanted. I was always that guy who could hit the buffet line 5 times and not be full. I have always been a big, muscular guy with very broad shoulders. At my peak physical ability, I weighed 275lbs when the “insurance chart” said I should weigh 170. Now….there is no excuse. I’m fat….morbidly obese.

Fast-forward 13 years. I’m married with 2 children. Stopped playing sports but stuck to my “Southern raisin’” and always cleaned my plate. I’m not a big candy and pie type but can put away 3 helpings of spaghetti. Carbs are my mortal enemy!

I’ve had 3 minor heart attacks, 2 stents and a triple bypass. I am type II diabetic, can’t catch my breath if I run short distances and start sweating 10 minutes into a walk through Target.

My IQ finally caught up to my appetite and I’m having a sleeve procedure in a few weeks. I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired. I’m excited and nervous. Ready to start my “second chance” at life.

Welcome Randy :D My decision to get the sleeve is one of the best decisions I ever made. Once you get yours I am sure you will agree.

We offer alot of support here, so feel free to post a question and someone will have an answer. There is a Man's Room forum you might want to check out.

Good luck and again welcome.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
