Having a hard time getting ready for pre-op diet:>(

Recommended Posts

I am having a hard time trying to adjust just drinking fluids for 5 to 7 days! I tired to go on the liquid diet before and I failed at it! I get so hunry all the time its hard and it seem like the liquids is not cutting it for me! The good thing is I have not really cheated because my sx date is 3-15-11 and my surgeon just want me on liquids for 5-7 days but I just hope I can do it!!! I feel so bad about because I do not want to mess up! I want to start out on a positive note!!! Why is this so hard???

:welldoneclap: Well I will tell you the first 3 day really suck. If you can make it for the first 3 days you will do it. I used Jello, protein drinks and a lot I mean a lot of Water to keep myself full..I know after day 3 for me I really didn't want any food.. Your body will turn on the fat reserves that you have and you will want food less and less. You can do it don't give up.. I was on liquids for 2 weeks was it hard..well yes but it can be done if you want it bad enough..

Doing an all liquid diet on a complete stomach has got to be killer! Look at it this way, after surgery it'll PROBABLY be easier. Though still no cake walk.

But I agree, the first 3 days are the worst of any restricted diet. I go through MAD sugar withdrawl but it does get better. Just remember, you have a liver to shrink for surgery. That's a big componant of the pre-op diet.

My preop diet is 5 Protein shakes and all the zero calorie drinks I want. I can also have SF pudding and Jello.

Its been alot better than I thought it would be and I'm on day 5.

The Protein Shakes are alot better than I thought and when I get really torqued about food the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup is a life saver. I can honestly say that with this much Protein I'm not feeling any hunger but I am missing crunching on things a bit.

I start my pre-op diet Wednesday and im soooo nervous! I have to do 4 shakes a day for 2 weeks! eeek! I HOPE that I can do it without cheating! I'm pretty sure I can- because im really worried that if I dont it will possibly cause problems with the surgery, I mean hey- they dont just have you do it for kicks and giggles- there has to be a reason its important. So I think, I dont want to die, so I better not cheat! lol Good luck to everyone!!!

I'm 6 days in now.... my preop diet is two weeks...

I'm utterly convinced that the key here is Protein Protein protein! I've had very little hunger...

You can do this! My doc has me looking to get 100g of protein a day. So far I'm doing great! You can too!

On my 6th day as well. I totally agree! The higher the protein, the less hungry I am. I have 3 unjury shakes and 1 Unjury chicken soup...then all the other broth, Water, etc...I want. Hasn't been that difficult. Well...unless I smell food!!:P

Well I feel for ya'. Stick with it, "YOU CAN DO IT" (say this in Rob Schneider's voice from any of Adam Sandler's movies)

I was on the liquid pre-op diet for 14 days - voluntarily, I was SO desperate to start the weight loss - I was feeling that bad. Only cheated once, a piece of pumpkin pie. I started the day after Thanksgiving!

I'm on day 6 also. I am not hungry, but really bored with drinking shakes. I have found that if I keep myself really busy I am better. I painted a room yesterday and my garage doors. So I might not like the 2 week pre-op, but at least my house is getting a makeover!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
