Also after 18 to 24 months the body starts to compensate for the reduced calorie absorption. The body starts absorbing calories in other parts of the intestines I believe that is how it works anyway. They refer to the first 18-24 months as the window of opportunity. ~Mandy

that why the band is soooo awesome! You always adjust it to help the weightloss and it is a permanent tool to lose the weight. not a quick fix...

thats also why they say the band and gastric are equal in weightloss in the long run... and we have less gigly skin

Just showing some BAND love!

"I don't know much about Gastric Bypass, but how do you gain weight after that?"

With the by-pass you lose a lot of weight though malabsorbtion(sp?). You only have a limited amount of time 18-24 months before your body develops a way to absorb the content of what you're eating. If you don't adjust what you put into your body during that window of time you'll regain when your body starts absorbing the calories.

Bandsters can eat around their bands and not lose weight, if bypassers don't change how they eat, they will gain too. (Eventually)

My best friend had GBP almost 5 years ago, he lost really well in the begining and now, nothing, he struggles to just maintain. It is also common to stretch the pouch, and they also adjust to the malabsorption and gain weight. It is really difficult to lose after those first 18-24 months. SO Carnie is all on her own will power with those baby pounds. ~Mandy

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
