Getting a Surgery Date before being Approved from Insurance?

Recommended Posts

I went in Monday for my final appointment after I completed all my "pre-req's", and the doctor then told me she could schedule me that day blink.gif I was confused and asked her about the insurance approval, and she casually told me she can't see how i wouldn't be approved etc, and told me it was a tentative date. So I went ahead and scheduled for April.

Now, by no means am I excited because I don't wanna be disappointed if I weren't to be approved or something else popped up. but because my doc switched practices at the end of last year, there was a problem with HIPPA and getting my documents switched to new practice, but luckily I called all the offices and had them fax over my info to the new office, so by the beginning of next week my doc's office should have it. she then told me they would send everything over to the insurance company for approval.

the office even went as far as to schedule when i start my pre-op diet, my pre-op appt., my anesthesia consult, and first post-op appt.

So I'm just hoping all this pans out smoothly.

but has anyone else gotten a date before insurance approval?

No I haven't, but...run with it!! The surgeon probably knows the routine well enough to know you won't be denied. I'd be so pumped. Anyway worst case scenario, you reschedule. Best of luck!

My doctor is scheduling me before I even do the prerequisites because my insurance is through the hospital I am going through so he knows I will be approved.

my doctor does it like this too. the doctors make you do so much and they have everything documented, so to speed things up for them and you, they file for approval while you are already scheduled. efficient is how I look at it. :)

My insurance requires that they submit the approval for a specific date. If you want to change dates you have to request a revision to the approval.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
