Expected weight loss

Recommended Posts

Greetings from Northern Maine! I am a newbie, just sleeved on February 7th. It was an amazing process, went back to work a week after the surgery! HAve been feeling wonderful. Had my two week follow-up yesterday and lost only 6 pounds. The surgeon was very happy with that but I left feeling that I should have lost more! Only liquids and losing only 6 pounds? Saw the NUT after that and she said there is no standard for expected weight loss following the sleeve becasue it still is so new. What are your thoughts? I, like many of you, have had so many diet failures thorughout my lifetime that I am worried this didn't work...did the surgeon not take enough of my stomach (crazy thoughts, I know). What say all of you? Should I worry? I have started the mushies as of this morning, so far, so good! Love this site and all of you!

Surprisingly, no! I have desk job and by the end of the day I was a little more tired than normal but it was no difficult or unmanagable. It really depends on what you do for work I think. I made sure that I had only projects that could be done at my desk rather than my usual traveling around, etc. Good luck.!

Weightloss the first few weeks is different for everyone becausee everyone heals differently.

Question - how long were you in the hospital? Did you have IV's If so, your body is probably still processing all the extra fluids you recieved, normal Fluid retention due to swelling/recovery, etc. I would wager that you'll see more loss very soon.

Good luck with the mushies. Remember to take it slow and easy.

Well to answer your question quite honestly there is not a set amount you can lose. I have seen people lose 145 pounds and I have seen people lose 110 and can't lose anymore. It really mostly depends on how much over weight you are..It is a trend that the more you weigh the faster you will start losing and more you will lose at first.. The lower your bmi is say your only 75 pounds overweight you will lose slower.. I will tell you though it seems that the lower you keep your carbs it seems that people lose a lot more weight.. So if you stay with your diet and exercise I don't know if there is a set amount you can lose. I know when you get to a point where you want to be you have to up your calorie intake and carbs to maintain. I don't know if that helps you but it really is just my thoughts...

I had my surgery on Feb 4th, I have lost 12 lbs, however...i have not lost a single pound this week, feel a bit bummed out about it. I also went back to work a week later and that was fine, surprised at how fast I felt good. My pre-surgery weight was 206, today I am 194, been there for a week :( Not sure why, I even started walking on the treadmill every other day for 45 min, about 2.5 miles. I hope this is what they call the 3 week stall. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks. Just seems I eat such a little bit and should lose more. I'll remain optimistic though, I know it takes time, just ready to see that scale in the 180's already. Let me know if anyone has any thoughts on this. Thanks.

I know how you feel. I had my surgery on Feb 7th also. The first week I lost 8 lbs and I thought that was low. But I am grateful for the loss. I have my followup appointment on tomorrow. I have not gone back to work yet. I have the time so I thought I would use it. I have been doing some light exercise with the wii (playing games) but not over doing it. I have heard others say that the body is in shock and is trying to hold on to the storage weight it has especially since the calorie intake it so low. So, I'm hoping that once I start a regular diet and exercise the weight will start to fall off.

Hey guys, I had my surgery on February 7th and as of Monday I have lost 34lbs. I am pretty happy with that, but my point here is I had a bmi of like 59 to start and weighed 455lbs. So I think the reason I have lost as much as I have is because I have about 220lbs to lose. Well, good luck everyone!!! Just thought I'd weigh in, lol...

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
