Scared that they won't approve my surgery

Recommended Posts

So, I had my psych consult last Wednesday, and it didn't go so well.

She implied that I am definately not serious enough about this surgery since I haven't lost weight on my "diet."

I am serious, I just have a really hard time losing (weight unless I'm at like 900 calories), while I'm on birth control pills. I've also had to switch pills at least twice during the 12 weeks I've been on my diet.

I really hope that this doesn't mean that I can't have the surgery.

I haven't lost enough weight either, and my meeting with my surgeon keeps getting delayed. My ob-gyn says I have PCOS and that makes the weight even harder to come off. I've been doing no-carb (or very little carb) since last november. This sucks and I'm having trouble staying focused. Besides that I'm just anxious as to what might happen if I go back and not lose enough weight. I feel like I need this soooo much. :(

I told her I've kept at the calorie count recommended. I no longer eat fast food. I don't even allow chips or chocolate in my home. I've made HUGE changes, but my weight just isn't coming off. I've lost a few inches, but no difference on the scale.< /p>

If she doesn't approve you, you should not-so-gently suggest she stick to her area of expertise (mental issues) rather than issues that a physician should be dealing with (slow metabolism hindering your weightloss). There could be a myriad reasons why you haven't lost weight, and they have nothing to do with how "ready" you are for surgery.

I agree with BlackBerryJuice.....she needs to stick to her area of expertise....she is not a nutritionist, she needs to do the psych eval to determine your readiness....not judge or figure out why you aren't losing! Hang in there!!

Fingers crossed that she recommends you as a candidate. I am so thankful that I wasn't required (by insur. or my surgeon) to lose any weight on my own. If I could do that, be successful and keep it off would I be looking at surgery? Aargh!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
