Hi, Everyone

So I had my Sleeve done on November 1 2010 and the morning of my Surgery I weighed 263 and today I'm at 212, so 51 in 31/2 months is amazing, but I'm paying a big Price for it. My hair is falling out like crazy, Its coming out in CLUMP (sometimes) i think I easily lose anywhere from 200 to 400 strands a day, I'm afraid to comb my hair, wash my hair I put a wrap on my head before i go to sleep. i used to have thick long beautiful hair and NOW there thinning out faster then I'm losing my weight. I love the weight loss, but I'm paying a big price for it, all I seem to be doing lately is crying day and night. and It doesn't help that throughout the day I only take One Multivitamin cause anything else makes me throw up, even if i take 2 multi- Vitamin at the same time, in less then 10 minutes after taking it I throw. idk why this is happening. Every time I try to make an Appt with the Dr. he is either away on Vacation or his schedule is full, it schedule didn't seem to full prior to my Surgery. does anyone know of a Multivitamin that is strong enough where I only have to take one through out the day

PLZ someone tell me that this Hair loss is going to STOP and I will have my hair grow back, if there light at the end of the tunnel I diffidently don't see it. for a Month i had stop drinking Protein shake because I was getting sick of it, but I was still eating grilled chicken, tune, salmon maybe it was enough Protein idk but this is crazy. I feel like I'm going to go into Depression if my hair doesn't stop falling. I NEED SOME ONE TO TELL ME THAT ITS GOING TO BE OKAY....

Hello Zuby (((((hugs))))) to you...

Do not stress so much, so many things can contribute to hair loss. Best to avoid all those factors and stress is a big one.

I'm taking Biotin 2500mcg. My hair does fall out as well. It's been falling out since the third month post op. I'm going on 5 months out in a few days, and it's still falling out pretty good. My hair is very long too and thankfully extremely thick. My husband can't even tell the difference, only that I'm always cleaning out my brushes now and the bathroom drains. :( Here's some hope though, since I've been taking Biotin (from the first onset of hair loss) I've noticed I have a ZILLION little baby hairs growing back already. They are little spiky creatures that peer out of my slicked back hair. It's pretty funny when you see me up close. Anyway, that is hope in itself, IT DOES GROW BACK!!

So, do not worry... yours will grow back too someday. You might want to try the Biotin and see if after a month or so if you get the little baby hairs growing back.

Also, I take Alive! Multi Vitamins and Minerals. I like the way it makes me feel. However, I really don't agree with the belief our hair is falling out due to low Vitamins, etc. From what I understand this happens to a lot of folks who under go many types of surgeries, not just Bariatric. It is a shock and stress to our bodies and the result is Hair loss. That's what I've read up on it and is what I tend to believe. Really though, who knows. What I do know though is that my hair is making a great comeback!! It may even come back thicker than ever, which, in the summer time can be a bear. ;)

Wishing you the best, and I really hope you can cheer up. You're doing so fabulous, it's a shame to spend it down... Chin up!!!

I haven't had my surgery yet but haven't heard of too many losing hair if they're getting in their Protein. I know from a child with a crash diet years ago that hair grows in 18 month cycles. It will grow back. If you don't get the Protein in, it will fall out and until you're totally getting enough protein in, it will not get that good healthy start to growing in again. You'll be better I just know! I am already taking Biotin I'm so worried about it! Better days are ahead for you. You could always go to a nutritionist specialist as well! good luck and keep us posted.

Hi Zuby [[[HUGS]]] to you! Bravo and good for you on your efforts thus far. Please try not to stress yourself out so much. I know how frustrating the hair loss can be. Before I started this journey my hair was so thick I could barely get a regular hairband around my ponytail twice. Now I can wrap it a good 4 or 5 times. I have had 22 or 23 surgeries and have experienced some Hair loss after most of them. The good news is that your hair will continue to grow and that barring any other major issues the lost hair will probably grow back as well. My hair is very long and that makes the loss fairly noticeable. You can try different hair styles that may make you more comfortable.

I had issues with throwing up, to be honest I still do quite often. I have found that the over the counter Anti-Nausea liquid works for me most of the time. Walmart has their equate brand in a cherry flavor that tastes better to me than the national brands. If those liquids do not work for you, you can always ask your doctor. Mine also gave me some of the Anti-Nausea suppositories for when it's really bad.

I know you will get tons of advice and hopefully all the support you can handle here. Everyone here seems to genuinely care for each other. Just know that you are not alone. I had to eventually switch to Flintstones chewables. Do the best you can to follow your doctor's instructions. If you can't get in touch with the doctor, see if you can talk to the nutritionists who saw you for the consultation/pre-op diet instructions. They can give you excellent advice on what may be of help to you. I know all of this is very general and it's nothing that you do not already know. I suppose sometimes it's just a matter of realizing that we are not alone in the trials that we face every day.

We are here to help, when we can. I will keep you in my prayers.

Brightest Blessings,

Charlene

Hey, I am sorry to hear this- although I have not had this surgery yet- I have had a surgery every year for the last five years- the last two- hysterectemy and then a very large tumor and ovaries- and after both my hair fell out- and still is- my doctor said to take the Biotin and take two flinestone vit. a day- plus if I didn't get some sleep and quit stressing that it would fall out anyway- stress and being upset really does horrible things to your body- You made a decision to better your life- be strong and happy that you were brave enough to take that step- use it to the best of your ability- stay strong!! Hope you are doing better. :)

get chewable Vitamins either Flinstones or Gummy ones and take one in the morning and one a few hours later.

start taking Biotin - its for hair loss

Protein Protein protein - if all you drink is Protein shakes then do it.

i bought sugar free gummy vitamins at CVS they are delicious and they don't make you sick. the Flinstones were making my stomach upset.

good luck

Hi Zuby -- more hugsss -- I have to agree with Irene (Diva) -- my hair started falling out around the 3rd mo. too and has been falling out since -- I too take biotin. I am a stickler for my Protein, too.

From what I understand the hair will fall out due to rapid weight loss -- the body thinks it's dying and is transferring its energy from growing hair to more important stuff -- don't worry -- all the long-timers say it does grow back.

And like Irene, I too have little hairs sprouting all over my head. It's weird, but heck, I'd take weird little hairs over none (and I have lots of thick hair too). I think it's all due to the Biotin -- it won't prevent the Hair loss, but it does encourage Hair growth. I've also noticed my leg hair grows in faster (ugh).

So chin up - - it will get better :)

Just wanted to say that I don't think Biotin actually stops or even slows the Hair loss. What it does is help a lot with the re-growth. I know it does stop falling out eventually too... so not to worry! I'm glad you are feeling better!! :)

I have been told by my surgeon to also get Nioxin Shampoo and conditioner or Ovation Cell Therapy! Both of those shampoos work really well with hair loss/thinning hair. You might want to look into both. I know you can get Ovation on the internet and you can get Nioxin at a local Super Cuts!

Good luck

HOW do you loose so much so fast?? I just posted in another thread that I have only lost 29 pounds in 11 weeks and I am going nuts about it!

Now for the hair thing, I am just starting to see some effects, like breakage and loss. I too have very thick hair and figure I can go without some for a bit :) I knew going in that I might loose some hair, but I figured it was very small "temporary" price to pay for getting healthy!

Chin up, you are losing hair for a good thing, losing weight!!!!!!! Imagine what those feel who are losing it due to cancer? That should put things in perspective hah?

Big Hugs to you....Regarding the hair loss sorry I can not help you I cut all my hair off prior to surgery (Nov 8) than started wearing a wig that I will remove this summer. After dealing with my thyroid cancer, I thought why not get a jump start this time around. Regarding your Vitamins I've been taking Celebrate baritric Vitamins since surgery the chewables and they have not upset my stomach and they taste really good. Try visiting celebrate.com

Keep your chin up, focus on your great weight loss not the hair.

Take Care

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
