6 days post op

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone,

Just had a quick question. I was sleeved on the 25th and still seem to be having a lot of gas pains. I constantly feel like there's a big air bubble in my chest and sometimes it hurts after I swallow some liquids. Ive been trying to do a lot of walking and it seems to help a bit. Is it normal to still be having gas pains at almost a week post op? Is anybody else experiencing anything like this?

I have not had surgery yet but a lot of people have responded to that question and suggested using a straw to elimate air and gasx. Hope someone with more knowledge responds. Good luck

Mine was done on the 24th, so I am 7 days postop. Yes, I still get the gas bubbles, especially when I drink a little too much at one time. So I think you're probably right on track. No straws--they made it worse for me.

Straws will force more air into your tummy. Try to avoid them.

Glad you posted that... I thought people had said to use straws to avoid the air. I might have been putting myself in unnecessary pain. lol

I was the same way for a few days post op, but has mostly improved. My doc said was from swelling in new tummy and should improve as the swelling goes down.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
