beat of luck to you from a fellow NEVADAN!!

I had my surgery done in Reno also. Dr. Watson (hottie doc) was my doctor too. I am scheduled for my first fill on Sept 12, 06. Does he do them himself? I thought a nurse or someone did them.

Hello - I'm downtown - I went to Dr. Fisher's seminar - a friend and my cardio recommended Dr. Fisher's partner, Dr. Atkinson. I am also looking into MD's in Mexico. Does anyone have a recommendation, success or "stay away from" report?

ms883,

Was banded in Mexico by Dr Ortiz.... great place if you are a self pay much cheaper..... I know lots of people who were banded by both Fisher and Atkinson and the latter is definately the better, in all ways..... Fisher has a horrible, horrible bedside manner unless he's niced up a bit because of loss of business to foreign docs...

In September I'm going to check out Dr. Ortiz in Mexico. I have my fingers crossed that the clinic will be as good as the reviews. We are self paying. The cost will be about 1/2 in Mexico. I would love to do this over the long New Years weekend. Ms883

I’m sorry have you experienced Dr fishers Bedside manner ? I am not disagreeing with you that he does not have a reputation of having a challenging bedside manner, but unless you have experienced it for yourself I don’t think such propagating such negative remarks would be a good idea..

I was banded by Dr Fisher and I Chose Him because of his bedside manner and experience. You see, Dr Fisher has such a reputation because he is committed to his patients success, and is his sweet and sour way he is very blunt, mater of fact and will take none of whining and excuses from his patients. From all of my accounts with experiences with him and his Successful patients. They all agree that he has shown them nothing more then tough love and it is exactly that "horrible bedside " that has allowed them to be so successful for so long. From my account he has been kind, fair, and by all accounts supportive in the ups and downs.

I could go on but basically my point is, I’m sorry if you have had a bad experience with Dr fisher, and if you haven’t then perhaps you should be careful about what rumors you want to spread. Maybe some people need a Dr with a little more commitment to their patients, and some of us need a Dr that will not coddle or let us skate by with excuses. If this is in turn " horrible Bedside manner "then So be it give me some more, please!!

Dear Vegaswildflower:

I have said nothing negative about Dr. Fisher. I stated that I attended his seminar and I was seeking comments and opinions from others. It appears that you have confused me with another list member. I can't say anything negative about Dr. Fisher because I don't know him. Your message concerned me because if I had said something negative, that could be grounds for a defamation law suit. Needless to say, I would not want that.

Ms883 , Im confused?

Stella made the post and as much as I respect you for knowing that stating negativer remarks about a DR can had reprocussions. Its clear to me that my psot is in respoce to Stellas comments made to you.

If I screwed this up, Im sorry..

VegasWildFlower,

I did meet Dr Fisher when he did surgery on 2 of my friends and also been to several of his seminars in support of my friends. I wouldnt say something so rude if I didnt believe it. I also work with those in the medical field so have a differnt opinion because of it. Anyway dont want to turn this into a cat fight. It was just my opinion. Who knows, you may not like Dr Ortiz's bedside manner or staff (my surgeon) and that would probably make me feel as defensive about him as you are Fisher.

Just wanted to make sure that the others knew there really is a great place to go if you are a self pay.......

Stella I don't think saying Dr. Fisher has a bad bedside manner is going to get you sued.....He may be a great doc but he could be nicer...I also have been to 3 seminars.....and probably would have gone to him if my insurance covered bands....I would have prefered Atkinson over Fisher...Because I was self paying...I went to Dr Joya in Puerto Vallarta...... Dr. Ortiz was the only other one I considered in MX.....I have heard nothing but great things about Ortiz and I was happy as a clam with Dr. Joya.....I am going to Dr Rios in TJ to get a fill it is 88 to fly to San Diego and 200 for the floro fill......we also in Vegas for self pay do not have many fill options that are affordable......

It is Dr Yee at Aspen medical....he charges 299 first fill and 155 everyone thereafter...no floro.........It is a good deal thru Fillcenters USA....I just want a floro for my first fill ...and He just started a month ago so I will wait a tad for him to get some fills under his belt....I did e-mail the Ortiz office to see what they would charge for a floro fill but no response...actually Dr Yee on chyenne is trained by Ortiz I think because he owns the fillcenters with a couple other docs

Your right Stella, there are lots of proficient DR ( being a paramedic and a ER Coordinator in Las Vegas ) has taught me that .

I know you are entitled to your opinion, and just like there are some people that you like and others don’t, I know DR fisher can be a little hard to swallow for some, although to me he is wonderful..

Thank you for the clarification.. and I’m not one to cat fight either.. =)

HootieBelle,

A fluro fill at Ortiz's office is $100. That's wonderful if he was trained by Dr. Ortiz and will be great if he uses Fluro. It takes less time and money to get to the sweet spot :welldoneclap:

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
