1st Fill and nothing

Recommended Posts

Is it normal to get your first fill and for it to do nothing as far as help control the hunger?

And I was told I had to wait another month before another fill. that seems a little crazy to me to wait that long.

Any thoughts? the hunger is going to drive me nuts!

I had my first fill on 5/25 (8 weeks after surgery) and it didn't do a thing. I am going back for #2 on Wed (one month after the first). Call and see if you can move your appointment up. A lot of us need 2 or more fills before we experience restriction.

Completely, completely normal. Having to wait a month makes no sense. I didn't feel anything until my third fill. I was REALLY discouraged between fills 2 and 3 (which were only a week apart). Then fill 3 took effect and BAM. Glory!

If you can't move your fill schedule up, really question your doctor about what the reasons are. From my research, the best band surgeons in the US have an open door fill policy (NYU and NWWLS do, at least), which greatly contributes to their success rates. If you do have to wait, don't worry. It's just another challenge and as soon as you get proper restriction this WILL work for you.

Totally normal, though it can take 1-2 weeks for the fill to hit... Especially around AF time...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
