My Journey and Energy

So one week ago today I had my plication done in Tijuana with Doctor Corvala. Excellent experience. I was quite ill that night and the next day but I am 54 years old and I think we take a little longer to recover, the older we get. I came home on Friday and am starting mushy foods. I eat Tomato Soup and I had some potato mashed up last night. The thing I am realizing is that while this surgery constrains quantities, the choices I make are still mine and my calories can either be highly dense and purposeful or sugar and crap. There are still a lot of choices to be made and a lot of effort needs to go into this to make it work.

I have noticed one effect though right away and wonder if anyone else has noticed this. I have way more energy suddenly than I've had in years! Before surgery I usually slept 10 hours a night and after dinner was too tired to move. Now I am zipping around the house in the evening and I went to bed at 10 last night and woke up "Refreshed" at 6:00 AM!!! The only thing I can figure out is that perhaps I was exhausting myself with the amounts of food my body had to digest. Any ideas? Also having no alcohol is helping I am sure.

Anyway I am not on the scale, have no idea what my weight is but I know with walking and smart food choices I can make this work and I think it's the best thing I EVER did.

I am still in the hospital and OMG I am chomping at the bit to get out, I too have soooo much energy. It is the best I have felt in YEARS!! I am 40 and need to loose 100 plus lbs and I had my surgery done in Mexicali by Dr. Abril. I love him and his team and staff and the patient coordinator so much, I could almost stay here for ever. I want to take my nurse home with me I love how she takes care of me so well. I am so happy for us!! let's keep in touch about our success stories!!

Deal! We can be support buddies on this journey. I am on my way to the bookstore to pick up "The Zone", I talked to a patient of Doctor Corvala's who is not a member of this board but he put me in touch with and she had her surgery done in June and she uses "the Zone" diet and is down an incredible amount and says she has never felt so well in her life.

Felt pretty tired for about weeks, then new metabolism kicked in. I'm 57 with multiple medical problems and the extra energy is an awsome early benefit. For me, spacing out my shakes and smoothies is necessary to boost my energy. Let's celebrate!

I have a Vitamix and adding Protein to fresh fruits or veggies amoothies has helped me with the mushy phase. How long ago did you get your plication done? How are things going?

Haven't tried veggie smoothies. Sounds good. Will look up Vitamix. Thanks for the ideas.

Had VSG. 1 month ago. Mostly drinking Medifast shakes plus extra Protein from skim milk and Prostat 65. Just limited mushie for now. Weight falling off. Too heavy to weigh on normal scale. Will see surgeon at end of month and I hope his scale works.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
