I was wondering that too. I am still terrified to try any raw veggies or fruits. I am 6 weeks out.

Most doctors say no salads until after 12 weeks post op.

I've been eating steamed veggies since about 3 months out, raw veggies too, and at 5 months out started eating wonderful raw salad greens, with zero issues. I probably could have been eating all of those things at 3 months out but they weren't available to me.

I am 7 1/2 weeks out and I ate raw califlower and carrots with no problem and of course steamed veggies of all sorts! I haven't tried salad and don't really want to yet since I still have to really chew everything up good and I don't want mushy salad in my mouth! LOL

i dont get it...why do we have to wait so long to eat something thats good for us? i cant eat mashed up bananas on mushie or throw some red peppers in my magic bullet with eggs and cheese to whirl up an omelet? is it a person to person case (eg; if you eat it and your body is fine its ok for you?) Is there a list somewhere with guidelines of when you can eat what? i never got that from my surgeon...

At 4 weeks I put onions in with my egg in the bullet and then baked them into fratatas with zero issues. I talked to my NUT and she said I was clear for iceburg lettuce at 6 weeks.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
