I am now lactose intolerant. I wasn't a big milk drinker to begin with but I did enjoy a glass every now and then. Lately I have been craving Milk and can no longer drink it :( I mixed one of the carnation instant Breakfast packs with skim milk this morning not paying attention to what I was doing, and lived to regret it about half way through. I sip sip sip so it's not getting in to quickly, but when I hit about an ounce to 2 ounce mark I started vomiting, and not the nice quit way it was horrible. I went and bought the lactaid milk tonight for breakfast tomorrow I just don't know how well I'm going to like it. I poured a small glass to taste, and it's really sweet. Is there another brand out there that's not as sweet but still lactose free? I looked like and idiot tonight reading all ingredients and nutrition label at the store. Does it get easier now that I know for sure it's Lactose I can't have? Will cheese do the same thing to me when I try to introduce it back into my diet? Lots of confusion right now.

Sorry to hear that!

I think there are a few organic brands of lactose free milk, maybe check some of those out. I think in general lactose intolerant people can still eat cheese and yogurt, but there are exceptions! I think that would be a good one for your dr, to avoid another vomiting episode. Good luck!

Hi, MommieTawnie--

JMHO, but I don't think you are lactose intolerant. When lactose hits the colon, that's where it's digested and when one is lactose intolerant the symptoms of non-digestion are diarrhea, bloating, gas, and maybe nausea. From your description it doesn't sound like the milk got out of your sleeve. Maybe today was not a good day for milk, but I wouldn't give up on it yet. Wait a few and try again. In the meantime, try almond, soy, or rice milks.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
