One week into surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I had my lap band on June 7. I passed the one week point yesterday. I have to admit it was not as easy as I expected but it was not all that bad. I think ads where people go to work on the 2nd day are very very very much exaggerated. I look forward to being able to eat again. I have been on a liquid diet for 4 weeks and still have one to go. Any ideas on some things to drink would be appreciated. Yesterday was the first day since the surgery that I could drink without my stomach cramping. Today I am actually starting to feel a little bit hungry.

I started out weighing 294lbs and at 5'3" that is definately obiese. This morning I weighed 263. I realize that when I start eating I might gain some of this back or be real slow losing any more, but I don't care. It feels wonderful to look at those scales.

To those of you who are planning to have the surgery. My stomach felt as though I had exercised too hard and my muscles were real sore ( not too bad). My worst pain (which most probably will not have) was my neck and shoulder. The doctor thinks that it was hyperextended while they were putting the tube in. The other problem was my stomach cramping whenever anything but Water hit it. Because of this I became dehydrated for about 3 days. All in all it was not that bad of an experience.

Would I do it again??????? :clap2: IN A HEARTBEAT!!!!!!

I AM 49 YRS OLD AND FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS AND YEARS, I ACTUALLY LOOK FORWARD TO TOMORROW AND THE NEXT DAY AND THE NEXT.:biggrin1:

Congrats on your banding! :clap2:

I love what you say above. As soon as I got my surgery date set yesterday, I realized the same thing. I felt hopeful for the first time in YEARS that I don't have to be this size and watch my health get bad and then worse.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
