How can it be possible that no one knows the definitive answer to this?

So my NUT has not returned my calls or emails for 2 days and i just started my preop diet...prior to this i had no idea about the net carbs vs regular carbs phenomenom...all i want to know is do i count net carbs or regular carbs...it seems like different people had different opinions as i browsed verticalsleeve.com but no one had a response that was medically sound (like my doctor said to do this or not to do this because...) Can anyone help me since my NUT seems to be on vacation? Can i count Net carbs...why or why not? Thank u!! You're all so amazing and your words are beyond inspirational!

I don't know much about the carb issue...so sorry! I hope your NUT calls you soon. My NUT told me not to take advice from these forums because they are often wrong. LOL I couldn't make it without this forum!

Total carbs include fibre which is not digested in your system. Net carbs is total carbs minus the fibre carbs. Some believe a carb is a carb is a carb and others follow the belief that if its not digested or have a caloric count then it should not be counted.

Bottome line is you will have to make your mind up on which you want to follow.

What type of pre op diet are you on? How many carbs are you suppose to have a day? Are you using an Internet site to track to diet?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
