Texas investigating the jump from LP to VS

Recommended Posts

Howdy all! I was banded 3/08, so this March will be 3 years. I have lost a total of 50 lbs and kept off 35 of that - the gain had more to do with having to stop running - completely unrelated.

I have an ultra sensitive band. In 3 years, I have never had more than 2cc in my band. And there has been drama finding that out. No hospitalizations, but one trip to the ER because what was we thought I had some sort of stomach flu and dehydrated, not realizing until I was pumped full of anti-nausea drugs that it was a band problem.

Yesterday (after no fills for almost a year now), I went to see my surgeon because I had to have some taken out after two weeks of only being able to eat liquid foods - smoothies, Soups, etc. For the first time, he talked about switching to either bypass or sleeve. Sleeve definitely has my interest to say the least. I think is more frustrated with my band (not me) than I am.

So, as I investigate, I may have a question from time to time. Looks like there are already plenty of topics to surf through to find what I am looking for.

See you guys around the boards!

I am Sparkpeople under the same name, and LapBandTalk as well, but not active.

Good Luck Tex, I was banded in 6/08 and my doc approached me about switching to the sleeve also, i lost 104 lbs but then had a prolapse and gained 40 back even after the revision so last month on 11/1 I was converted to sleeve and have no regrets at all. i ve lost 12 lbs and i dont have that stuck feeling anymore, i can eat like a normal person now without all the drama of looking for the nearest bathroom at the restaurant. good luck on whatever you decided, and let us know, there is a wealth of information and support here, take advantage of it.....vicki:)

Best wishes in your research. If you'd like, add me as a friend, and you can peruse my blog. I have tons of research links, articles, dietary guidelines, and my own story of band to sleeve revision in there.

The sleeve is truly the best decision I ever made. It's so much easier than the band, and really works like the band is advertised to work, but fails miserably on delivering.

Welcome Texas friend,

My revision from the band to VSG is in two weeks. This forum is so great for researching and getting advice. I would also suggest Youtube, as there are many happy VSGers on there with great advice. I am so happy to be kissing my band goodbye soon. Good luck with your new journey.

Thanks for the welcome. I made the call to my surgeon's office to start finding out what is and is not covered. I was blessed to have the band completely insurance covered. We will see what they think about revision. Thankfully, I have been a very good patient and all of my ups, downs, struggles, and success has been doctor documented. All in all, I have been a model patient. I will keep you guys posted. Thanks again for the feedback.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
