My Plication sugery is coming up fast, Dec 1st. Of course I'm getting nervous and a little scared. I've been reading messages from people who had the sleeve surgery, since thats about all thats out there. I'd like to hear whats different as far as recovery, and anything else you could tell me as far as what is different with this vs that? It sounds like weight loss is about the same??

I'd love to hear from those of you who have had the plication how your recovery went? I'm planning on being back to work 5 days after surgery.

Thanks!

Hi Karen,

You should check out Carol's (CKNorte) blog. She has a lot of information on there.

I believe it's http://mission-no-fat.blogspot.com/

Good luck to you and please keep us updated on your surgery and progress.

Hi Karen. My understanding is that you do recover faster with the plication, but I'm not sure about going back to work that soon. I probably could have, because I had a fairly easy time. I was just tired for a week or so. However, my sister-in-law has had a rough time from the anesthesia and swelling in her stomach, and I don't think she could have gone back to work in five days. I chose the plication because I was afraid of leaks with the sleeve.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
