5 months out... having my first ever problem!

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

So I am five months post op. Down 50 pounds :) I feel great! I have literally had zero side effects since surgery date. I didn't even take my pain pills. It was a very easy recovery and a pretty easy lifestyle change. However, a few days ago... I began having issues while/after eating dinner. I will eat very little (like a single bite of chicken or two bites of black beans) and I will all of a sudden get really full from just that bite. It's uncomfortable, and I get what some people have described as the "foamies," although I had never experienced this before. It's weird... I'm not trying to eat any more than usual. I was wondering what could be causing this?

Thanks in advance for any responses :)

I would talk to your doctor about this... especially if you have not had problems earlier with the same thing. It could be excess acid but I am not a doctor. :)

OK, so i feel a little inexperienced writing this, but i have had the band and a revision in the last 2 1/2 yrs and am being sleeved in 6 days. i have done so much reading and researching for the past several weeks that it sounds like it could be a stricture. Don't want to scare you, because I really dont know, but i have read that scar tissue can form inside the sleeve and pull the stomach together forming a stricture, you should probably make an appt with your doctor and maybe get a swallow study done...good luck to you. i hope it is just something simple and will go away on its own... :) ~vicki

Sorry to hear you are having problems. I am only 3 weeks out, but my dr. told me that anytime I had a change in the way food was going down (more than a couple of times in a row) to call the office. I make scar tissue easily and he said that although he didn't anticipate problems, he wanted to catch anything early! Call your doc!! That's why they make the big bucks!!! Hope things get better very soon.

Yes, call immediately! It's better to be safe than sorry.

I experienced something similar and was feeling incredibly full and almost sick after just half a tiny meatball. After seeing the doctor and a specialist and having an upper GI done last week, they told me to eat smaller bites and actually showed me how tiny they wanted them to be. It's pretty embarrassing, but the issue was that I was eating bites that were too big and causing the esophagus to spasm. Oops. Apparently, even thumbnail sized bites are too big for me, because I'm lazy with the chew, chew, chewing part. However, since I went in and corrected my eating habits, I'm back to eating 2 ounces of dense Protein, instead of 2 bites.

But it could be something very serious, so you need to be checked right away to be certain.

Keep us posted, I hope it's a simple fix.

~Cheri

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
