Sleevers in The Raliegh NC Area, I need Help!!!

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if any sleevers in the Raleigh Nc Area, had any luck with Insurance coverage and any doctors that will fight for you.

I have currently finished all my testing, and had scheduled surgery for Nov. 3. Well, yesterday I was hit with a low blow. My Doc originally said he had no probplem getting the sleeve covered and it should be ok, yesterday I was told the he was told on Friday, that my insurance Empire BC/BS of Ny, said that it was considered investigational, and will not cover the sleeve. He said he asked what would be the reasons for them to cover it, he was told if I had a condition that will not allow me to get any of the other surgeries, not just because I do not like them. The bottom line is, he said he would suggest the Gastric Bypass. My heart is broken, I was so close to the sleeve I could taste it.

To top it all off, he said that alot of Blue Cross plans are starting to follow the path of medicaid and stop covering any WLS. So, I feel I need to do something quick.

I need to know if anyone know another Doctor in my area that will fight for me with my insurance to be sleeved? Has anyone has the experience and actually was able to do it?

I am in Raleigh NC and have Cigna. I have read Cigna's guidelines for wls. My problem is..........I have had to go on a doctor supervised diet to even be submitted for approval. I am 4 months down. It has been beneficial because I have lost weight. I have heard that BCBS is the easiest to get approval for.

Go back and read what is written. If you are mid year in your contract with them, they cannot change guidelines. Contact the Dept of Insurance and the Attorney General. My doctor(Dr Henderson) has specialist who know what to do to get you approved. You didn't say who your doctor is.

Pray until something happens!Prayer still works!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
