On day 4 after vsg I am starting to have the worst lower right side back pain. I know about the gas but this is a new pain and hurts more than the cuts. Suggestions needed please

Make sure you keep up with your painkillers, keep moving around and when you're resting try a hot water bottle on your back. As far as sleeping on your front is concerned, as soon as it's comfortable I guess. It took me about a week I think of gradually wriggling onto my front from my side. I sometimes had problems getting up from that position though! Just take your time.

I'm also 4 days post-op today (my sleeve was done on 10-22-10) and I quit taking pain pills Sun. night because they were giving me hearburn. So now I'm just taking rapid release tylenol for pain. I would have to say that I'm not in horrible pain, but just SORE. And I have a drain that is so obnoxious...I hate it! It gets pulled tommorrow by my surgeon and I can already tell I will be feeling so much better once it is gone!

As for your pain, it could just be related to the surgery and the gas. After I was out of recovery my shoulders and neck hurt (from the gas) but by Sat. that was all cleared up. Can you send an email to your surgeon (or call) and see how common that pain is for their patients? It may just be something that you have to suffer through until all the gas has worked it's way out. Hugs.

So did we have sugery on the same day? If so I think you are the first one that had my same sugery date. Hope your back pain is gone soon!

Hi Angie, and welcome to VST! Congratulations on your recent surgery!!

I did have some back pain shortly following surgery. It started up around day 2 and lasted up to a week. I think it was a combo between gas pain and only being able to sleep in the same position so much. However if you feel more concerned, definitely contact your surgeon.

I am also a stomach sleeper and it took me about a week or more to start sleeping on my stomach, and even then it was needing to be done with a lot of care. I think after about 2 or so weeks I could sleep on my stomach pretty comfortably.

All the very best to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
