Am I the only one? I haven't had a BM since the morning of surgery, and that was 6 days ago. I don't feel like I need to go and I realize I'm only drinking liquids, but shouldn't those be making their way out, too?

yep they should, did you not assk your doctor if you can add benefiber or something to your liquids? Only because I had that problem and waited to long thinking oh I'm mostly onliquids it's be fine. I had a very horrible experience with my bowels aand I wouldn't want to go into detail again(too disgusting) but there's a thread somewhere about it, i think it's I need my Fiber or bowel movements or something, so I would advise you to look for help ASAP, good luck!

Okay, thanks! I didn't ask about adding fiber though. The nurse mentioned during discharge that they should start by themselves. But I have my week follow up on Tuesday, so hopefully I can remember to ask about the fiber.

I'm having the same problem. I hate to admit this, but I haven't gone since my surgery morning either, and that was 9/20. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks!!!! yikes. I am going to send a message to my nurse and see what she says. I have been taking some fiber gummies, thinking the fiber would help, but nothing's happening yet. :)

Hi Fleur,

I never had the passing of any gas yet either I am still waiting for that.:)

However while in the hospital I did have a couple episodes of a BM Loose, but none since i have been home. I have my follow up on Wednesday. What kind of liquids are you taking? When do you move to the blended Stage? I just don't feel the desire to eat, I have been sipping on liquids though i get a little nausea not much but I know that I am still healing. This is harder than I thought but most definitely Fleur i would talk to my surgeon about not having the BM.

Good Luck and best wishes

You can take a laxative if necessary but it may give you some stomach/abdominal cramps. I used Benefiber religiously when I was first sleeved and it did the trick. You won't 'go' as much as before which is normal as you are obviously eating a lot less. Keep your fluids up and you will be ok.

can you take Miralax soon after the surgery? Adding a dose everyday to your diet will help keep things regular. I'm on Iron pills so am taking it now (i'm pre-op), but was hoping to continue it after as well just to keep the GI open.

I'm still having BM issues almost 4 months out... having to resort to medicinal relief once in a while to help! I think its cos I'm focusing more on Protein than fibre and veggies.... my veg intake has gone way down as I just don't have room for them anymore.

My Dr just said take the stuff he prescribed me... which is a natural fibre I mix with Water, and it works.

I contacted my nurse, and she said to find some MOM (milk of magnesia.) My problem... um.... solved itself the day after that email, so I never went out and got it.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
