Anyone got a fill in Calgary yet?

Recommended Posts

Hey Canucks,

Just wondering if anyone that was getting surgery has since gotten a fill with Dr. Mitchell yet? I haven't met him and was just wondering if anyone has anything to say about him and how their fill went. Thanks.

Lanie

I'm surprised no one's answered you. I thought there were people who have had a fill with him here.

I went to Calgary for my first and only fill, but it was while Dr. Cobourn was there, so he did it. Dr. Mitchell and all the others that Dr. Cobourn was training were there watching it. Dr. Mitchell has done them before, so he wasn't 'learning' exactly.

I spoke to a girl once who had kind of an ordeal getting her fill with Dr. Mitchell... he tried like 10 times, and still couldn't find the port. So they gave up and she was sent to the hospital to get it done there (with flouro, I believe). He still made her pay the $100 for it though, even though he didn't do it.

That being said, I know that *I* would still give him a try, and I likely would have already, but I'm in the process of moving to NB, so I don't have the time or money to make another trip to Calgary right now.

There are 3 other Dr's now, I believe that *can* do fills, but from the sounds of it, Dr. Mitchell is the most experienced, so he would be the best bet.

Hope that helps.

Mandi

This is a pretty old thread, but I just wanted to recomend Dr.Mitchel. I've seen him about 4 times now. Both him and his staff are friendly, caring, and attentive to my concerns.

Dr. Mitchell charges $150 per fill/visit. I agree with the above poster and highly recommend him as well. He's fantastic. I have a very tipped port which we're holding off on correcting til I'm a little closer to my goal but he never misses it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
