Juarez?? Confused??Scared??

Recommended Posts

They just emailed and said they have an opening in 2 weeks in Juarez with Rodriguez. I have about 24hrs to make the final decision. SOOO Scared and nervous. Just started even thinking about this about 2 weeks ago. I feel like I haven't had much time to process everything!! Has anyone heard anything bad about Rodriquez or the Juarez hospital?? BMI is around 32% and I am scared I will look awful skinny?? Is this wierd?? I can not ever remember a day I was happy with my body or my weight. I say I only need to loose 40lbs but I just can not imagine being smaller than that because it has never been an option untill now :/ But tonight at the dinner table my 7 year old was fighting with his brother over food. That was such a wake up call for me. He said that he loved food. That was the saddest thing I have ever heard. I do not want my kids to love food or be obsessed with food. Somethng has to change somewhere. Why shouldn't it be with me??

My BMI is 32 too :-) I am scheduled for surgery with Dr Rodriguez in Juarez for November 11. You should move your date to Nov 11 so we can go in scared together lol. Plus that way you will have more time to mentally process everything :-) I have had the same fears too. I want to lose about 65 lbs ultimately, but I'm like "how will my body know when to stop losing?" I have had friends tell me I'm not big enough for WLS but I know my body and I also know that I have become obsessed with food and it will only get worse unless I nip it in the butt now.

My ultimate low point was when my Wii gaming system told me I was obese...can you believe that! A video game telling me I needed to lose weight lol!

Don't be afraid, I know you'll be fine. I am heading to Juarez myself (alone) on Nov 8th. I'm not afraid at all. My BMI is 34.4, I find it difficult to believe that one day soon I will not be referred to as the one with the pretty face, don't ya just hate that.:huh0:

I had a friend tell me that she thinks that the Hospitals there pay off the drug cartells and no one bothers the hospital patients.

I am looking forward to my pre-op diet, because that means the day is getting closer :).

Hope all goes well.

Ladies, not to be a killjoy, but please, please think this through. You are making a life altering decision, and it's not an easy task. I must tell you that I believe that if you're only in need of loosing 40lbs, perhaps you should consider an alternate option. This surgery is drastic, and although I LOVE my sleeve, frankly, I'm concerned that you're thinking of using this tool to loose just 40lbs.

Sorry, do not mean to upset or offend, but wanted to throw my 2 cents in....

I'm scheduled with Dr. Rod in TJ on the 19th. I've been researching doctors for quite some time and am feeling very confident in my decision. My BMI is about 32 and I would LOVE to lose 40 lbs.

My fear is that I won't lose any. (I'm a band to sleeve revision and my band has not been kind to me).

I am not offened and agree that if it is only 40 lbs you need to lose one should consider other options. I started my serious weight loss jounrney at 100lbs over and have managed to loose 30lbs over the last year and have yo-yoed with 15 of those 30lbs (an aggrevating thing in itself :mad0:). My ht is 5'2" and current weight 190. I have discussed this with both my primary care physician and cardiologist and have gotten a :wink0:.

PS I am not a spring chicken anymore!

I weigh 200 lbs and have tried everything else. I have been struggling with my weight which I put on as a result of depression for 5 years now... I have also been at a weight I was very happy at. My doctor tells me I am not a healthy weight and I have back problems as a result. Everyone has their own breaking point...why should I wait til I am 300 or 400 lbs before I decide enough is enough. I don't think of it as a tool to lose 40 lbs I think of it as a way to be happier within myself and healthier again. I think if you qualify for it and you have researched the pros and cons and what the aftermath is going to be like and you still want to do it...go for it. That is why they have qualifications, so they don't get a bunch of people that don't need it, or who it would be dangerous for, having it done. Anyways, we, especially as Americans eat so much more than we really need...is it really that bad for us to not eat as much? I am not offended by the way :-) just wanted to put my 2 cents in as well.

I personally have not heard of any negatives coming from Dr. Rodriguez patients. However I would suggest doing a quick search just to find other posts that I may not have seen.

Good luck! It really does go very fast once you make that decision, but I can tell you, you won't regret it once you get over the surgery recovery period. :)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
