I had my surgery on Monday (Aug 16). I was the talk of the floor because I was up and moving fairly quickly and had little pain. It didn't last long though, nausea set in and I was gone.:scared0: They had to give me phenegren and it knocked me out. It was hard for me to drink after my upper GI came bad clear. I would fall asleep trying to sip down my Water. As soon as it would go down it would come back up. So not fun!!! I am home now and doing better. I am up and walking and sipping as much as I can. I have a gas bubble that is a beast. Nothing is helping it come up. I have taken gas-x strips and my mom has even patted me on the back like a baby. It is holding on for dear life. Hopefully it will come out soon so I can get more liquids down. :001_smile:

Sorry about the rough start! I puked for days and days. Not fun to throw up after stomach surgery. The gas bubbles do hurt, especially those ones that go behind your shoulder. I felt a lot better using a hot pad on them and on my chest. I hope things feel better very soon!

Anna

Hello, my sista! Same surgery date, same McGurgles (to quote Supersize Me)! I also partook of such party favors as Phenergan, Zofran and Compazine. YAY for us! I have the Gas X strips next to me as I write. So far, Jello goes down best for me, so I'm trying that as my immediate liquid of choice. Hang in there! We did it! :001_rolleyes:

Definitely agree the heat pack was what helped the gas pains for me.

Glad to hear surgery went ok. Hopefully you'll get beyond the gas pains quickly and be up and around again soon. Congratulations on this major like changing event. Keep up posted.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
