where are the heavyweights?

Recommended Posts

I don't know if it's just me, but it seems like lately all I ever see on VST are people who only had 75lbs or less to lose. I'm starting to feel awkward, like I'm the only person coming from high numbers - 294 pre-op. I don't have 75 lbs to lose, I have 175 lbs. I would really really appreciate hearing from anybody who had 140 lbs or more to lose, so I could talk to those who've been there from my kind of numbers. Maybe this is the wrong place for this thread, I'll look in the 100+ thread.

Heavyweight from Kansas here. I need to lose approximately 140 pounds. Right now I am on my pre-op diet and have lost about 15 pounds in 8 days. I realize most of this weight is Water weight, but I am still very excited. I have 6 more days of pre-op. I am 5'5 and I would like to weigh about 140. I want a little bit of meat on the bones and that's why I went with a higher weight.

Oh I think there are a lot of us here...My high weight back in the middle of March was 292. I was 268 the day of surgery. My goal is to get to 135...whether I can do it, who knows.

I'm a pretty slow loser now...did good at first...but been a little discouraged lately.

Course I'm not really exercising much...just starting to. Walked 1.5 miles last night. That's really good for me considering 6 months ago I couldn't even walk around the block.

Right here. heaviest was 324. My sadist surgeon is making me do a 3 week pre-op liquid diet. I already did a six month low carb diet and lost 40lbs. coarse I put ten back on in between approval and starting liquid cuz I had a fat kid relapse after finding out I was going to have to do 3 weeks of liquids. 2 days into liquids and not too bad so far. Serious caffine withdrawl headaches. But will be worth it in the end. I hope to get to 175 but would be completely ok with 199. My goals change daily! I have surgery on the 30th. So I cant let you know whats coming but there are plenty of other heavyweights on here that can!

I started out as a heavyweight with a beginning weight of 263, and standing a mere 5'2". With the band I started at 270, and the day of my revision I was 263. So, my starting BMI was right at 50. . .

I made it to and passed goal ! ! ! Total loss to date is 150, and I dropped 143lbs in about 10.5 months with VSG alone. . . It can be done, and is a great ride ! ! !

Heavyweight here. I have about 160+ pounds here to lose.

I was thinking the same thing Globetrotter when I started ready some post that they only need to lose about 75lbs and I thought you should be at least 100lbs overweight to have the surgery in the first place. Anyway, I was beginnging to feel like a giant (I guess I am width wise, a little height challenged here).

Don't worry, I am here for the long hall and hopefully soon, there will come a day when I can say I only need to lose 75 lbs.

You are not alone. I need to lose apprx 150lbs. I still have one more class required by my insurance. I already had my sleep study and found out I have Sleep Apena. So I am now using the CPAP machine everynight. Once I finish my last class at the end of Aug they submit to the insurance company for approval. I am thinking my surgery will be some time in OCt.

Hey everyone! Heavyweight here... :-P

I need to lose about 140 Lbs. I currently have the Realize Band and that has not been able to help me with restriction and easier weight loss that I'd hoped for. So now I'm going for something more permanent and using a World Class Bariatric Program through LapSF and Dr. Cirangle. Insurance paid for my band but will not pay for revisions. They should pay for the removal of the band however and that will help.

I am digging out all my hard earned dollars to have this done, and this is my last shot at getting it right - so you better believe I'm making it to goal this time. And I'll stay there too!!

Just in defense of those who have less than 100 Lbs. to lose, well I wish I wouldv'e done this sooner. I wish I wouldn't have let it get so out of control that it seems like my goal is so far to be reached! Kudos!!! to those who are taking control before it gets so distant, like my goal. However, it is nice to have people around who are more along the lines of weight loss needs to support each other.

my highest was 250 at 5'3". My goal is 130 -140. I'm currently at 160. I too wish I would have had this option when I had 50 or less lbs. to lose. How much better those "fat" years would have been and how much better my SKIN would have been. LOL

I know I know, I would totally have done this in my early 20's or even late teens as a preventative measure if I could have, I'm not putting down lightweights, It's that I was feeling lonely. Thank you though to everyone, I know now that I am not the only heavyweight left on the forum, though I am one of the short ones (5'3")!

Dansha and I are similar: I'm 5'5" and my heaviest ever was 305. I'm still preop and down to about 291, but I definitely have about 150 lbs that need to go!

You are definitely not alone!

I'm only 5'2" on a good day ! ! ! Being short really has it's advantages once you lose your weight, seriously, people think I am so "petite and tiny". I've never been called tiny in my life, and it's kind of crazy when I look at my before pictures. . .

Plus, being short makes buying jeans in smaller sizes so much easier. Skinny jeans come in the perfect length for us vertically challenged ! ! !

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
