This is my first step on my journey

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody!

I just joined to site after lurking in the shadows over the past week. I've been researching WLS, first concentrating on the band surgery. Needless to say, I've decided the sleeve is better suited for me. I've just started on my journey, haven't even had a doctor appointment yet. Would love to talk to some post-op people, especially those who encountered problems. I'm the type of person who likes to know the worst case scenario, so I can expect the worst, then if I don't get it, I can be happy, lol. Thanks to anyone who replies.

Have a great one!

:)

Hi there! I am Vicki from Pa. I decided to have VSG about 5 months ago. I am still in process. I have had 5 of my 6 Dr. visits, LOTS of test and yet, I have no idea if I will get approverd by my ins. company. Yes they cover WLS but all cases are not the same. I think that if I go thru ALL this stuff and I am not approved, what then? I told my husband alot of people go to Mexico and hes response was "yea right" and where are we gona get $6,000.00 to do that. He thinks I look fine and is not sure in his mind that I REALLY need this. And six grand is cheep compaired to having it done on the USA. But I am just praying that I get approved. It seems like alot to go thru but I am sure we will both come out the otherside better off for it. Just get started......ask LOTS of questions. And this site is wonderful. I do not have alot of contact with people on here but I do enjoy reading what everyone has to say.Let me know if I can be of any help to you and I will try. Good luck!:crying:

Yeah, I'm concerned that my insurance will deny also. Unfortunately, Mexico would never be an option for me, just no way possible, not living paycheck to paycheck. I wish you luck on your approval, I can completely understand how much you want it. Yeah, I've gotten a couple of people telling me that I don't "need" it, but my mother was super-obese by the time she was my age, and I keep inching my way in that direction. I know it's not a cure-all, but more of a step-up, and I can use all the help I can get!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
