Hi everyone!

i went shopping today and went into the health food shop to try and get some of what i need for after the op.

i bought a maxitone Protein Shake for women and the shaker that goes with it, i got a bottle of Multi Vitamins and a bottle of Vitamin B12.< /p>

just wondered what else if anything you would recommend me to get?

I also got Biotin, Gas-X (suggested right post-op - not sure if I'll need it after the hospital, but just in case), and liquid Calcium so I don't have to swallow horse pills.< /p>

I agree with all the above items. Especially those Vitamins...they HAVE TO BE chewable OR LIQUID for the first few weeks.

Don't buy a lot of Protein...your taste buds will more than likely change after the surgery...then change again weeks later.

Have some sugar free Jello, broths (I had mostly beef....tasted like steak to me after the surgery) sugar free popsicles if you can find them ( I couldn't) and a couple of weeks from now you will really enjoy that first egg, and maybe refried Beans as well as low fat or fat free cottage cheese and sugar free puddings (if you can handle the milk...I usually make it out of soy milk and Protein powder)

Good Luck.....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
