Being sleeved 6th October ....... yeah!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone

Just have to share my news, I have a date for my sleeve , 6th October in London , UK. Anyone else going to be sleeved in October ???

Its been such a long wait (years rather than months, its so slow on the NHS in the UK) ... and now its only 9 weeks away... The count down begins. I have six weeks of pre-op diet to follow so I have got to keep focused and do well.

Take care

Sue

You had to wait--but so do a lot of us, for insurance, and appeals. I've been trying to have surgery since 2002--I finally got the right insurance and set of circumstances to have it done this year.

At least for you everything is paid for, with no co-pays. That's great! I think you won't see that many US sleevers with October dates yet--they tend to schedule only a month in advance, but you'll start seeing October dates soon.

Good luck to you. Let us know what it's like to have it done in England--is there much support for you? Is it as common there as it is here?

Check out my blog (see below ticker) it might have some useful stuff for you (look in the archives). Congratulations on your date!

Donna

Hi Donna,

Thanks for your message. I had a look at your blog the other day and it was very interesting. I shall have another look later on. Well done on putting it together.

The sleeve is not so common in the UK yet... I hope it becomes more popular as time goes by. Its usually the Bypass or a lap band and the sleeve often doesn't even get a mention. I got offered the sleeve more easily as I have Crohns and I couldn't have a band or a bypass... but I only every wanted the sleeve so it was a happy outcome for me.

The NHS are funding my sleeve. It was quite a struggle to get approved for it. The UK is divided up under the NHS and each area has a different set of rules before you can qualify for WLS surgery. Some areas won't fund your surgery until your BMI is over 60. I had a BMI over 50 and severe sleep apnea and I ended up having to put on weight to get the surgery in the end. Crazy situation... still onwards and upwards..

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Take care

Sue

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
