Question about some pain...

Recommended Posts

I am having pain in the top half of my stomach, its more like in my rib cage. This is the second time this has happen, the 1st time I went to the er, waited for 3 hrs pain went away I went home without seeing a dr.

My brother had his gall bladder removed two years ago and I am thinking that might be what it is, but I am not sure where the gall bladder pain is? Any of you that have experienced gall bladder attacks, please share what they were like and one more thing, if this is gall bladder, will this effect me getting my surgery this month or will they just do it all at once?

Any info will be helpfull.... :help: :help: :help:

I had my gallbladder removed in 1986. Sharp stabbing pain through the back to the stomache on right side just below rib cage. Worse then labor pains. It can come and go. If you eat something spicy or greasy, it can bring on an attack if you have gall stones. If you think this is what it is, you can go to your doctor and schedule an ultrasound to see if you have stones. You should have the gall bladder out first or maybe at the same time if your doctor will do this. You don't want the gall bladder to get inflammed or to burst!

What if you feel something, but the pain isn't that bad? I keep wondering why, when I eat do I feel something in the lower, right side when the band is much higher. I think I just got my question answered.

But the feeling isn't that bad, just very noticeable.

I had my gall bladder removed in April. I didn't have stones, so my pain was different then someone who did. I had a HIDA test that show the gall bladder was not operating efficiently and had "sludge" in it. The ultrasoudn will show stones, but not other problems. Definitely get it checked out. My pain was on the upper right side, under the rib cage.

Good Luck - BTW - I was banded while experiencing this pain, didn't affect that at all. Some doctors will also remove your GB at the same time as the band, so worth getting it checked out.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
