8 wks post opt. update (2 weeks late)

Recommended Posts

I LUUUUVVVV MY SLEEVE!! :001_tt1:

So I went to my 8 wk. appt. 2 weeks ago & I had lost a total of 32 lbs.! Sounds good right?? Well the first 30 pounds pretty much happened in the first month. So I had only lost 2 pounds the second month. So after a big lecture my doctor told me I wasn't eating enough foods. I was shocked!...not enough foods. My intake has been 600-800 cal/day. He instructed me to eat more Protein to uptake my caloires so I did. Within a week I had lost 4 more pounds! It was hard to get it all in because I am pretty full all day.

What's interesting is my tale tale sign that I wasnt eating enough protein....I was getting hungry...no FAMISHED every 2 hours. So I would eat a tiny bit of yogart or something low cal/low sugar and I would get full pretty fast but was wondering why I was starving 2 hours later. My doctor is great...he recognized the culprit immediately. Now that I've been eating dense Proteins I feel totally stuffed for 3-4 hours and sometimes longer if I eat steak.

I even started to think I was in a stall even though I felt I was eating right and working out 5 days a week at the gym (1 hour cardio/ 30 min weights). I've been out of town for a week now so I don't know if I lost anymore weight yet. But I did bring along my beef Jerky to snack on instead of the sugar laden Snacks that my employer offers throughout the day.

I go to see my doc. next month for my 3 mo. post op. So far so good... 37 pounds & counting =0).

I should update my ticker...:)

I am really interested to read your post because I am at 7 weeks and in a similar situation. I lost 37 lbs the first month, and now I'm 3 weeks into my 2nd month and have only lost 4 more. I too am eating 600-800 cals a day and exercising usually 5 days a week. Perhaps it's just not enough calories. I already feel like I'm eating more than I "should" not that there is really a should but just how I feel. Maybe I'm so used to depriving myself with dieting :) I think I will try to up my Protein intake and calories and see if it helps to get things going. I appreciate this insight. Also congrats on how well everything is going for you!

I haven't had my sleeve yet but I will tell you on my most sucessful diet I was eating 1200 calories a day and working out and losing about a pound a day consistantly. I bet with a little bump up in your calorie intake your metabolism will start burning more.

You are doing great.

And I agree it is an interesting concept.

Please keep us updated and let us know how you're progressing and if increasing your calories on a regular basis continues to help.

When you don't eat enough Protein and are not losing weight, is that when your body is basically feeding off your muscles?

If so, that's scary cause your heart is a muscle.

Note to self: Don't skimp on the Protein after surgery!

On the 800 calorie per day comment, I do not think that applies across the board, I am 5' tall and don't need as much as someone who is 5'5" or 6'. I average about 650 calories a day and I get plenty of Protein (at least 70 g a day). So I am not starving my muscles in the least.

My surgeon said my calorie intake should be 600-800, in that range and the focus is on the amount of Protein that I take in each day.

I think we will all get different advice from our doctors but just want to make sure that we don't make any general assumptions cause we all are different.

At this point, 800 calories would make me pop! Or if I could get 800 calories in, it would be from foods that are high in calories and probably high in fat and carbs.

I too was given the 600-800cal a day guideline. As long as you meet your Protein requirements, your body is not feeding on muscle. I also work out a lot and build muscle... so I'm pretty sure I haven't just lost 41 lbs of muscle over here :)

Is anybody using Protein Bars to get their Protein in? I CANNOT stand any of the drinks! Lactose intolerant and tried to get the Isopure down. Eck! Found thesei "Pure Protein" bars with 20g protein in them. They do have 180 cal but since my calorie count is so low, I don't think they will affect me. They also only have 2g sugar. Also, tell me what you guys are eating at this stage. I am right at 6 wks post op - 35lbs down - but having trouble it seems to me getting more dense stuff down. One day works - next day same thing - nope! Not eggs - tuna salad sticks - had PB on VERY toasted slice of bread - did good for couple days - next day - threw it up. Any words of wisdom? lol

This is what I call the right post at the right time!!

I have been on vacation for one week already and will not be home for another week. Been having a pretty hard time making sure I am getting enough Protein while being on vacation. I did get cottage cheese, greek yogurt and some Soups at the store so I could have things in my mini fridge in the hotel. I also brought some Protein Drink mix, chocolate Protein shakes and Protein Bars for the times when I was out and about and knew I would be eating out with family. I'm really proud of how I have done so far and its been nice not having a scale too. Using the fitness center almost every night and getting a lot of walking in while sightseeing. I am just 5 weeks out of surgery and have a few more options to try as of today so will go grocery shopping soon

However, I have a feeling I may not be getting enough calories in per day. I will take a closer look and start journaling my food on all of the remaining days of my vacation. If I don't have a significant loss when I get home, then I will call my doctors office and speak with the nutritionist.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
