measuring chili

Recommended Posts

I measured everything by volume with a measuring cup. Our stomachs hold food by volume, not by weight. I never have understood why people use the scales. Only because, I can eat 3-5oz of dense Protein by volume, but it doesn't measure close to the same amounts by weight.

Yes, 4oz is 1/2 cup. 8ounces is 1 cup.

Don't feel stupid. 1 ounce = 30mls so when people say they have a 80-120ml stomach, that means about 2.5-4 ounces of food can fit in their sleeve.

I used those little kid medicine dispensing cups that come with OTC children's tylenol to measure my food. Once I got up to 3-4oz of mushy stuff, I started using regular measuring cups.

Ok, I know our stomachs hold food by volume and not weight. But when you look at a package, how do you know which way they have measured it? For example, in a can of chili I know they used Fluid ounces. What about a jar of peanuts? When it says 1 oz does it mean by weight or by volume? I use that label to write down if I eat 1 oz of peanuts... so what if I am calculating the wrong kind of ounce?

Most pre-packaged solid foods, meats, cheeses, are all measured by weight.

I actually did something really disgusting to make sure I was eating correct amounts by volume. I measured the food, chewed it up and remeasured. Gross I know, but it completely made sense to me. Plus, I wanted to make sure I wasn't insane with my measurements.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
